On the morning of August 24, the museum held the Budgetary Review Meeting of Departmental Programs of He Xiangning Art Museum for 2019-2021, chaired by Cai Xianliang, Deputy Director of the museum, who was also a member of panel of judges, together with Zhang Yanfang, Director of Shenzhen Art Museum, Xu Zhang, President of Shenzhen Fine Art Institute, Fan Ning, Director of Administrative Office, and Fang Hua of the Exhibition Curating Department. Five museum staffers, including Lin Fan, Deputy Director of Administrative Office, Yi Donghua, Deputy Director of Collection Research Department, Yu Xiangzhi, Deputy Director of the Exhibition Curating Department, Luo Siying, Deputy Director of Public Education and Publicity Department and Xiao Liuyi, Controller, updated the panel on the budgetary requirements of the respective programs. In the meeting, the panel of judges deliberated over the three programs under review – “exhibition”, “research, curation, publication and smart development” and “subsidy for museum operation”, with the following suggestions:
- Research of He Xiangning Art Museum should revolve around He’s art and related materials, so that two applicable research programs, A Complete Compilation of He Xiangning’s Artworks and Oral History of He Xiangning, should be included in the budget.
- To establish a high-calibre team, the museum shall greatly support the research and publication efforts of its staff, making it necessary to place employee research and publication expense in the budget.
- To expand the influence of He Xiangning Art Museum on the art community and public, the museum should preserve its current brand while venturing for a new brand and image. And for that, the operating department shall work out a relevant and practical new brand that fits the museum’s identity.
- On the basis of devising a new museum brand, all the exhibition programs will be normalized and serialized, rounding up a routine exhibition portfolio.
The budgetary plans of the relevant programs discussed in the meeting were highly acknowledged by the expert panel, who fully exchanged ideas with program chiefs in a constructive dialogue, benefitting all the meeting attendees with inspirational and valuable inputs and suggestions. The museum now has full confidence in its development rationale and program execution over the coming 3 years.
